Terms & Conditions

Last updated: April 18, 2026

The legal terms of using this calculator, in as little legalese as possible.

Agreement

By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. These terms apply to the entire site including the calculator, share image generator, and all supporting pages.

This is not financial, tax, or legal advice

The calculator produces estimates based on the inputs you provide and publicly available tax data. It is intended for general information and personal reflection only. It is not:

  • Financial advice
  • Tax advice or a tax filing tool
  • Legal advice
  • A substitute for professional consultation with a qualified accountant, financial advisor, or tax professional

Tax laws and rates change. State-level tax rates used in the calculator are flat approximations, not full progressive brackets. The calculation ignores many real-world factors including pre-tax retirement contributions, HSA contributions, itemized deductions, tax credits, local and city taxes, and employer-provided benefits. Do not use this tool to make tax filing decisions or to plan your personal finances in any binding way. Consult a licensed professional for advice specific to your situation.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no representation or warranty, express or implied, about the accuracy, completeness, reliability, suitability, or availability of the site or the information it produces. Your use of the site is at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of this site shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your access to or use of the site, including but not limited to damages arising from your reliance on any information produced by the calculator. This limitation applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations on liability. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Acceptable use

You may use the calculator for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may share the results, including the share images generated by the site, freely, including on social media and in personal communications.

You may not:

  • Use the site in any way that violates applicable law
  • Attempt to interfere with the site's operation, including through automated scraping, denial-of-service attempts, or exploitation of vulnerabilities
  • Use the site to harass, defame, or impersonate others
  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or attribution notices in share images or other exported content
  • Rehost or republish substantial portions of the calculator's code or content as your own

Intellectual property

The design, copy, calculation logic, and brand of this site are owned by the operator. The concept of the "real hourly wage" itself comes from the 1992 book Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez, to which this site makes no ownership claim. Our implementation of that concept is ours.

You are free to quote small portions of the site with attribution, and to share generated share images as they appear. You may not reproduce the site's code, visual design, or catalog content in a commercial product without written permission.

Third-party services

The site uses Google Analytics and Google AdSense, as described in our Privacy Policy . Your use of the site is also subject to Google's own terms. We are not responsible for the content or practices of third-party services, including the ads displayed by AdSense or the external sites they link to.

Changes to the site or these terms

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site at any time, without notice. We may also update these terms. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without reference to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or your use of the site shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
